Amendment to Work at Height Regulations
The Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007 No.114) were laid before Parliament on 26th January and enter into force on 6th April 2007. The amendment inserts a new paragraph (14A) concerning the provision of instruction or leadership to one or more persons in connection with their engagement in caving or climbing by way of sport, recreation, team building or similar activities. “Caving” includes the exploration of parts of mines which are no longer worked; “climbing” means climbing, traversing, abseiling or scrambling over natural terrain or man-made structures
Where this paragraph applies, an employer, self-employed person or other person shall be taken to have complied with the “caving and climbing requirements” (detailed in regulation 8(d)(ii) of the Work at Height Regulations), if he maintains a level of safety equivalent to that required by those requirements.
