RoHS Regulations now in force

The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Regulations 2005 came into effect on 1st July 2006. The regulations restrict ‘producers’ from supplying household appliances, electrical and electronic tools, IT and telecommunications equipment, and other consumer equipment to the market place if they contain higher levels of cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), lead or mercury than is permitted.
