Boeing’s suppliers to implement AS 9100 by June 2007

Boeing has mandated that all its suppliers implement AS 9100 and receive industry controlled other party (ICOP) certification against its requirements by June 2007.
They will only recognise certificates from certification bodies accredited under the industry scheme developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). The IAQG recently published a new document, AS 9104. This sets the minimum criteria against which the scheme can operate, and lays down minimum standards for accreditation of certification bodies and the management of the certification process.
AS 9100, entitled ‘Quality systems - aerospace - model for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation and servicing’ is based on ISO 9001. In fact, the basic requirements are identical to ISO 9001, but readers of this standard will see some additional requirements, in bold text, inserted into the document.
These new requirements cover traceability, flow-down of requirements, configuration management and stamp control etc - matters which need consideration in an organisation involved in supply to the aerospace sector.
JPD with NQA offer a 3-day course providing a full understanding AS 9100 in an auditing context, for more information visit our website www.jpd.co.uk or call one of our training advisors on 0870 438 2573.
