New Building Regulations to tackle climate change
The Government has revised and published the Building Regulations 2000 to implement measures to make buildings more energy efficient and tackle climate change. The regulations, which will come into force in April 2006 and implement the EU Directive on Energy Performance in Buildings, have laid revisions that include:
• Ventilation conservation (Part F)
• Fuel and power conservation (Part L)
However, houses having significant extensions have not been taken into account within the regulations and will be reviewed along with the policies to tackle existing dwellings. The new measures to make buildings more energy efficient should save one million tonnes of carbon per year in 2010 from buildings constructed from 2006 under the new regulations.
